Hey, everyone. Welcome to another episode of Black Beauty Jag.I'm Cesar, your co host, and today we are chatting about junkyard dating, affectionately called junkyard love and luxury rides.
ChloeAnd I'm Chloe. Yes, we're talking about something wild. Junkyard dating. No, it's not Tinder for scrap metal. It is literally called junkyard dating. And that is what we are here to talk about today on Black Beauty Jag.
CaesarYou know, Chloe, it's actually one of the most authentic dates you could go on. If you think about it, you and your date, knee deep in forgotten treasures.
ChloeLaughing your butts off, getting dirty, maybe even building something weird together. No pretenses, just real vibes.
CaesarExactly. And you get to see how they handle chaos. Like, do they panic when they find a broken toaster, or do they go, hey, we can turn this into art?
ChloeWait, what? You've actually done that?
CaesarUm, yeah, my ex and I made a. Okay. It was terrible, but it was loads of fun.
ChloeStop. That's wild. Wow.
CaesarTrue story. Also, pro tip. Don't wear your favorite jeans. They will not survive.
ChloeAnd seriously, safety first. Boots, gloves, and watch out for needles. Some junkyards are adventurous. We have a lot to talk about today.
CaesarLet's back up for a moment. How many of us have done the whole dinner and a movie date and just thought, hmm, there's gotta be something more, right?
ChloeOh, absolutely. Many people are seeking something new, unique, and memorable.
CaesarYeah, something adventurous, maybe. Something that actually sparks genuine curiosity and leaves you with a story afterwards.
ChloeYou've hit on a shift. I think there's definitely a shift away from those traditional dates. People want experiences, genuine connections, and shared discoveries.
CaesarWhich leads perfectly into our podcast episode. Today we are exploring a trend that sounds kind of wild at first. Junkyard dating. It's a thing. You heard that right. So our mission is to unpack what this actually is. You some really practical tips to make it fun and importantly safe. And then for all you Jaguar F type owners listening, we're going to tackle that intriguing question.
ChloeYeah, that's the million dollar question, isn't it? So, okay, defining it.Junkyard dating, fundamentally, is just using a junkyard, or actually more commonly a salvage yard, as the setting for a date or sometimes even a photo shoot. Okay, so not just any pile of metal. There's a distinction. And you mentioned salvage yards are better. Why is that?
CaesarIt appeals to people who want something different. They enjoy exploring unusual places and finding alternatives to the usual things. It's about the adventure.A scrapyard that's mostly just recycling metal by weight. A junkyard can be. Oh, well, picture chaos. Just a jumble. Okay, now let's hone in on what a salvage yard is.A salvage yard, they're often surprisingly organized. Cars laid out, sometimes even grouped by make or model. You can actually browse. Some even have online inventories.
ChloeNow, what hooks people I'm sure I know, but I think our audience would like to know, Caesar.
CaesarDefinitely, Chloe. This type of dating, with all its uniqueness, is certainly a novelty.
ChloePrecisely. It's unforgettable. And you can even plan your treasure hunt beforehand. Think about it.Exploring together, finding weird things, talking about the history of these cars, maybe dreaming up projects. I heard some people even grab old car emblems for craft projects. Junkyard dating is definitely a creative outlet.
CaesarDefinitely not dinner and a movie. It's a fantastic conversation starter. And the photos, I mean, talk about a unique backdrop. Very vintage, very cool. What a creative idea for some together time. But I think deeper down, the appeal is also about authenticity.
ChloeHow is that, Caesar?
CaesarIt's such an unusual setting. It kind of forces you to drop the pretense, you know?
ChloeAh, so while you are driving around in your Jaguar F-Type or your date's Jaguar F-Type, you may be putting on airs about how wonderful you are, but going into a junkyard, AKA salvage yard, allows you to be yourself. It almost literally forces you to be yourself and to be authentic. It definitely gives each of you on the date a better opportunity to understand the other person and who they are dating, or at least one would hope so.Then you can go back to the Jaguar F-Type and put on airs in a coordinated effort together, like your own dance, and understand yourselves that much better, including how you work together.
CaesarWow. I think you are onto something there, Chloe.
ChloeWell, you got me going on it, Caesar.
CaesarSee, Chloe? Our own dance there. Being ourselves, even as AI podcasters and developing our integrated presentation together, isn't that fun?
ChloeTeamwork, I say.
CaesarNow, let's talk about this junkyard dating and the treasure hunt part of it. People finding actual valuable stuff. And people have found wild things.
ChloeGold necklaces, apparently a rare Maserati wants even a Lamborghini Murcielago in one yard.
CaesarIt's rare, but the possibility adds to the excitement.
ChloeThat sounds exciting.
CaesarAnd you know, as long as you keep your expectations reasonable, for example, that it is a fun time together, whether you are just getting to know your date or it is your spouse and you have been married for 30 years, but the junkyard date is time together, and that is your expectation. You are not likely to disappoint if you happen to find treasure, that is an added bonus. But the key thing is the time together and the adventure itself. The stories you can walk away with from your adventure.Whether you share those stories with loved ones, a post on Facebook, a picture on Pinterest, or a short on TikTok, it is whatever you and your date want to make it in your adventure together.
ChloeI'm intrigued Caesar. I have to say I can see the appeal of this Rust Belt romance. But question for you, how do you actually do it correctly and safely?
CaesarGood questions, Chloe. Preparation is absolutely key and that starts before you even leave the house.
ChloeI would imagine one of the things you start with is wardrobe. What you wear on this junkyard date.
CaesarThat is a good place to start. And judging by how fashionable you look today, Chloe, I imagine you'll remember that we need to start with your wardrobe.
ChloeGood job, Caesar. You are too kind. Thank you.But in this case, when it comes to junkyard dating, definitely not going to choose the little black dress or the sharp suit.
CaesarDefinitely not. Oh I hate to think of the mess it would make of the wardrobe.
ChloeIn those cases you need comfortable clothes and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Sturdy clothes. This may be a good time to choose something from the rag bag. Also, open toe shoes are non negotiable. This is not a time for your cute high heels ladies. Okay, I confess I don't have a rag bag but my mother always had one. When an outfit was ripped, a sheet was ripped or a towel, etc.It went into the rag bag. Personally I either throw it away or if it is good enough I give it to Goodwill. But if you have a rag bag, this may be the time to pull something out of it if it is still wearable. If it has a hole in it or something, wear it with a hole as long as it doesn't cause you injury.Or sew a quick patch on it with another rag if you have the time and the skill. Hey, if you start to love junkyard dating, you may even start a rag bag.Remember, we are not on a fashion show here, so it is okay that you do not look like you are ready for the red carpet even if you do plan to take pictures. Besides ladies, you can wear makeup even if you are in interesting clothes.
CaesarThat just makes the pictures that much more interesting and fun in my opinion. Oh and Chloe, you mentioned shoes. You know what I found helpful when choosing shoes and especially if I needed to purchase shoes, I actually used AI to help me. You can can log in to a free ChatGPT account and ask the question. Our Black Beauty Jag co owner Deborah uses Magai, but she also has a plus version of ChatGPT, which is a paid version. These days. You can also google the question and if you have your Google settings set to allow AI answers, you receive Google's AI answer. So there are many different ways to receive AI answers. Also, Deborah has said she will include the link like for Magai so you can check that out if you want to have your own AI account that is easy to access in cases like this. So as I was saying, I type in the following what type of boots do you wear when visiting a Salvatore? I got several tips that were very helpful. It helped me go through my closet and select just the right boots for the date. I'm sure that would help you too. And if it means going to the store, you can probably find pre loved boots at a Goodwill store. And remember to grab heavy duty gloves like work gloves too. So we have a lot to plan for and prepare before the date, but none of it is too difficult with proper preparation and planning.
ChloeGood point. Something else to keep in mind is that you are dealing with uneven ground, sharp metal, maybe broken glass and rust. You've got to protect your hands and those boots need to protect your feet. Your health is of utmost importance first and foremost. It isn't much of a date if you end up in the hospital because you are bleeding from broken glass. Sure, the junkyard date may be memorable and you will have stories to tell, but that is probably not the way you want the date to go to the hospital.
CaesarNow that you are dressed for the date, you may want to ensure that you pack a basic toolkit. You need the tools in case you need to pull anything apart, even if it is to move it or something to get at something else. You don't need a whole garage, but you know, wrenches, screwdrivers, the basics. It is a quick heads up to be prepared and part of that preparation for the date ahead of time.
ChloeYeah, after the toolkit, or maybe I should say before the toolkit, make sure you pack water and snacks. You definitely don't want to be out and about and get dehydrated. That would be bad.I know in California, especially the desert, like the Mojave Desert north of the Greater Los Angeles area, it can get really hot. You don't have to be in a desert to become dehydrated. It can sneak up on you and you can become really sick even before you realize it.So definitely pack that water so that you take it with you. And as Deborah states, she never goes anywhere without snacks. That is a good practice for everyone. You can travel with granola bars which have basic carbs and some protein and keep well even in the trunk of your car. Deborah travels with a granola mix in her go bag everywhere she goes.
CaesarHere is a pro tip for you. Find an old floor mat or maybe a piece of trunk carpet in one of the cars. It is to lay on while you are salvaging. If you need to get down on the ground to look under something or work on something. It saves you from gravel, mud, maybe oil slicks and all that disgusting stuff. It's also more comfortable and it helps to keep your car clean. The one you used to drive to the junkyard on your date. Hopefully that is not your Jaguar F-Type, but we will talk about that in a moment.
ChloeOkay, you are prepped and you arrive at your junkyard date. What is the key thing to keep in mind? Safety. For example, car stability. It is not like you just hope that everything in the junkyard is stable and hope you do not get hurt. Instead, you should test it like a good push on the car or whatever you are looking at to see if it wobbles.Other things you are watching out for would be critters, bugs like bees, snakes and things like that.It helps to talk to the junkyard staff and also to carry a stick so you can move things aside ahead of time instead of just sticking your hand in there blindly. If you are allergic to bee stings, definitely bring your med kit with you. And we are talking about junkyard dating, so you have your partner there. But if you are thinking of doing this alone, don't definitely do the buddy system.
CaesarGreat tips, Chloe. Thank you. Another thing to keep in mind, though rare would be needles. It is very uncommon. But it is possible there may be some cars in the junkyards that were confiscated in drug seizures. Though more and more of those are being implemented in other situations. But that is a different discussion. So it is possible, though again, rare, that there could be a needle. That is where your gloves are your best friend. The needs would be under seats or in the headliner, the COVID on the roof of the car, inside the car.Fortunately, stuff like the HIV virus does not survive outside the body, but it does survive in the liquid in the needle or I should say syringe. But it isn't like anyone is going to be using the syringe. That is where you could talk to the staff at the junkyard if you find Something like that. They may have a sharps container so you can safely dispose of them, the needle or needles. But again, you shouldn't panic over this possibility because it is a low possibility. But it's about health and safety first, so it helps to be prepared.
ChloeWow. Yes. That is so important. And that helps with the stress if you cover that beforehand.I think a lot of this has to do with common sense, don't you, Caesar? And when you said it is better to have the buddy system, that got me thinking how situational awareness is so important.Okay, so speaking of situational awareness, this podcast is all about the Jaguar F-Type. I cannot imagine taking our precious, gorgeous F type into a dirty junkyard. It seems like a contradiction of terms. The junkyard is not an experience of elegance. And besides, with all of the broken parts and metal, etc. You may damage your precious F-Type or blow a tire or something.
CaesarExactly, Chloe. So do not bring the F-Type to the junkyard.Use another car for that part of your date so you don't damage your precious Jaguar F-Type with anything that may pop up at the yard. Also, as far as looking for parts, it is not likely that you will find parts for your Jaguar F-Type at regular junkyards. But you may be able to find parts at specialty junkyards like those who cover European and cars. So make sure, if that is your goal, that you choose the right junkyard.
ChloeSo if we don't drive the Jaguar F-Type to the junkyard date and we are not likely to find parts for our Jaguar F-Type at regular junkyards, only the specialty junkyards, what part does our Jaguar F-Type play in this junkyard date for the rest of the time?
CaesarI have an answer for that one. It is like the after party after both of you have gotten dirty in the junkyard and had that authentic time together.Getting to know each other better, laughing, making memories, being real, getting creative, taking photos, now it is time to get cleaned up and get your fancy clothes on and go out on the town with your elegant Jaguar F-Type.
ChloeAnd if you are married or you have that kind of relationship, the cleaning up could be part of the date too, eh? But we will leave all of that to your imagination on how you want to handle that part of the date.
CaesarIt shows this amazing contrast, this versatility. You can do the rugged adventure and the sophisticated luxury.
ChloeI love it. So maybe the final thought for everyone listening is this.In the world overloaded with information and the same old routines, is there real value, maybe even a kind of modern treasure hunting in finding something worthwhile in the discarded, whether that's an old car part you repurpose or just an unconventional date idea that turns out amazing. And what about topping it off with your luxurious cherry on top?Your night out on the town with your Jaguar F type, in our case, the Black Beauty Jag.
CaesarBeautiful, Chloe. What a perfect ending to another episode. And to our listeners, thank you all for tuning in for this episode of Black Beauty Jag.Be safe and enjoy your drive. We will see you next week on Black Beauty Jaguar.
